Workshop Description

The practice of mindfulness is a tool for living and supports the cultivation of awareness of ourselves, others and the world around us. It helps us, whether we’re an adult or a child, in or out of school, to develop focus, emotional resilience and well-being.

This workshop is an experiential introduction to mindfulness and an exploration of the benefits of teaching it to children and staff in school. You will be given simple mindful tools to help you as a hard-working teacher and support your management of energy and the experience of stress.

We will look also at the key principles of teaching mindfulness in schools. Srivati will share her experience of working in collaboration with those wanting an integrated approach to mindfulness in their school ethos and culture.

Srivati has been teaching school children at the LBC and in schools for 15 years and delivering the Breathing Space in Schools pupil programme across London since 2007. She teaches adult secular Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction courses in schools and at the London Buddhist Centre as well as the biannual Breathing Space in Schools teacher training.

She has been practising mindfulness since she became a Buddhist in 1984. She was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 1993 and is also a qualified school teacher.
